Trump and Russia: Sex, Spies and Scandal
CHANNEL 4, 10.00PM
The question of whether Donald Trump and his campaign team colluded with Russia during the 2016 US election remains one of the most fraught issues of recent times. This documentary, presented by Channel 4’s Europe editor (and former Washington DC correspondent) Matt Frei, explores the issue and is fascinating given that the US President continues to insist he is the victim of an unprovoked “witch-hunt”. There is added frisson as the Senate intelligence committee calls on Trump’s inner circle to testify and the infamous Christopher Steele dossier grows in credence. Frei promises new information, a clear look at the scandal and there are combative contributions from former CIA officer John Sipher, ex-trump adviser JD Gordon and that master of Nixon’s political consultant, Roger Stone.
The film’s real concern, however, is not whether the Trump campaign was guilty of collusion so much as whether it would be possible for such collusion to occur. How vulnerable is the current President to pressure and how feasible is it that his team would have taken actions described by one contributor as “so unpatriotic many would consider it treasonous”?
