France adopts new terror laws

A controversial anti-terror bill that gives French authorities new powers to search homes, shut places of worship and restrict freedom of movement was adopted by the country’s parliament yesterday.

The new law makes permanent emergency laws enacted after the 2015 Paris attacks – in which 130 people died – and replaces the state of emergency which expires on Nov 1.
