Donald Trump’s attorney general has refused to deny the pair discussed the FBI director’s Russia inquiry before he was fired. Jeff Sessions said conversations between them about FBI boss James Comey were “confidential”.

Mr Trump’s decision to fire Mr Comey is being looked into by a special prosecutor.
