Abortion clinic staff ‘given bonuses for encouraging clients’

-

ONE of the country’s largest abortion providers has been accused of giving cash rewards to staff who encourage women to have an abortion.

Staff at Marie Stopes International clinics felt “encouraged” to ensure women went through with abortions because it was “linked to their performance bonus”, the Care Quality Commission found. The health watchdog’s inspectors said there was evidence that staff at all Marie Stopes clinics were advised to call women who had decided not to go through with the procedure to offer them a new appointment.

Marie Stopes rejected the claims, saying: “It is categorically untrue that any member of our staff receives a performance-related bonus for the number of clients they treat.

“We follow a stringent consent process for all of our clients.”
