Queen wins £7m on horses
THE QUEEN’S racehorses have won nearly £7million in prize money over the past 30 years, including £557,650 in a record-breaking 2016.
So far, she has recorded 451 race wins with a 15.9 per cent winning rate, earning a total of £6,704,941.
It is understood that the majority of the winnings go to the horses’ trainers, although Buckingham Palace said the matter was “private” and declined to provide a breakdown of where it goes.
The Queen, who is said to read the Racing Post daily over breakfast, currently sits in 11th place in the Owners’ Flat Championship table with 18 wins.
Godolphin Racing currently tops the table, with 132 wins and £5,513,737 in prize money.
Among the Queen’s top horses are: Pall Mall, winner of the 2000 Guineas in 1958; Highclere, named after the castle that belonged to her racing manager, who won the 1000 Guineas in 1974; Dunfermline, who won the Oaks and St Leger in 1977, her silver jubilee year; and, more recently, Estimate, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup in 2013.
