Brother-in-law in ‘jihadi smear campaign’

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A BITTER ex-husband framed his brother-in-law as an Isil bomber and a paedophile in a “vicious online campaign”, a court heard.

Shohidul Islam, 26, used fake Facebook and Twitter accounts to pose as Mohammed Razaul Karim, his brotherin-law, to make it appear he was a radicalised Islamic extremist.

He sent police a message saying that Mr Karim was planning to blow up a primary school in Canning Town, east London, and allegedly posted indecent images of children and used the fake social media accounts to send them to Mr Karim’s family in a bid to frame him as a paedophile.

The trial at the Old Bailey heard the smear campaign began following the breakdown of Shohidul Islam’s marriage to Fahimida Shuba, Mr Karim’s sister, who lived in Bangladesh.

Mark Weekes, prosecuting, said: “The failure of that marriage was one of the driving forces of his attack.

“His anger towards that family began after that breakdown.” After Shohidul Islam, of Bradford, was arrested at his local Jobcentre, police found a copy of The Anarchist Cookbook, which is banned under terrorism legislation, on his phone.

He is charged with two counts of encouraging terrorism, one count of possessing an article of use for terrorist purposes, one count of making indecent images of children and one count of making a bomb hoax.

Shohidul Islam denies all five counts against him. The trial continues.
