Sainsbury’s shamed over ‘messy’ aisles
♦ Sainsbury’s has been accused of looking like a “third rate cash and carry” after it started stocking boxes on top shelves.
Following a successful trial in some stores, the supermarket is rolling out nationally a policy of storing products in boxes and other packaging on its uppermost shelves.
Customers, however, have used Twitter to complain about the new arrangement, with one user posting: “Are Sainsbury’s stores being turned into a third rate cash and carry?”
Another said: “If you want to start looking like Lidl, at least match their prices.”
Natalie Berg, of consultants Planet Retail, said the “messy” shelves could help Sainsbury’s meet its one-hour delivery ambitions.
Sainsbury’s said the new policy would cut the number of re-stocking pallets which block aisles.
