Dubai leader secures Scot’s freedom
♦ Jamie Harron, the Scot who was sentenced to three months in a Dubai jail for touching a man’s hip as he tried to avoid spilling a drink in a crowded bar, has had the charges dropped after an intervention by the emirate’s ruler.
The 27-year-old from Stirling has now collected his passport from a police station and is making plans to return to the UK.
Detained in Dubai, a campaign group that has highlighted the need for judicial reform, said: “We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for his personal intervention in this case.”
