Macri strengthens hold on power in Argentina
The centre-right coalition party led by Mauricio Macri, the Argentinian president, has won a sweeping victory in midterm congressional elections.
While strengthening the president’s position in congress, the results dim prospects for a political comeback by Cristina Fernandez, his Left-wing predecessor, who came in a distant second in her race for the senate.
Her generous social spending nearly bankrupted the country during her 2007-2015 administration.
