MPS demand more data on e-cigarettes

- By Sarah Knapton

MPS HAVE started an inquiry into e-cigarettes to determine whether they are making smoking normal again, and if people are becoming addicted to vaping.

The science and technology committee has called for evidence about the health benefits or harms of e-cigarettes, and whether they are providing a gateway to cigarettes for young people.

Around 2.9million people now regularly vape in Britain, and around half are former smokers who have quit since taking up the habit.

Norman Lamb MP, the chairman of the science and technology committee, said: “We want to understand where the gaps are in the evidence base, the impact of the regulations, and the implications of this growing industry on NHS costs and public finances.”
