Suspects visit murder site of Kim’s brother
TWO women on trial for murdering Kim Jong-un’s half-brother have been taken in wheelchairs and under heavy police guard to the Malaysian airport where he was poisoned.
Siti Aisyah, from Indonesia, and Doan Thi Huong, from Vietnam, were taken to Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday wearing bulletproof vests and in handcuffs as part of court proceedings, along with the judge, defence lawyers and prosecutors. About 200 police officers, many armed with rifles, were deployed at the terminal.
The women are accused of killing Kim Jong-nam, the North Korean leader’s elder half-brother, on Feb 13 by rubbing the nerve agent VX on his face as he waited to board a flight.
During the visit, journalists pursued the women around the terminal and armed police tried to stop them getting too close. Aisyah, 25, burst into tears, while Huong, 29, appeared unwell.
The pair, who face death by hanging if convicted, have pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Kim. They say they were duped into believing they were taking part in a prank for a reality TV show.
North Korea is suspected of ordering the hit, which Pyongyang denies.
Four other unidentified suspects still at large are accused of committing the murder with the women.
