The nutcracker

A squirrel casually holds a nut and looks directly into the camera with its hind legs spread out in a pose worthy of a model. Barbara Lawrence, 63, from California, spotted the rodent in her garden. She said: “I took the photo standing at the base of the tree with my camera pointing up. The photo gives the illusion that he’s lying down when he was actually hanging. I’ve been taking pictures of wildlife for five years and this is one of my favourite poses. Squirrels are fascinating.”
