Outrage as advert offers ‘sugar-daddy’ services to students

- David Chazan in Paris

FRENCH police arrested a man yesterday for displaying a poster offering to help cash-strapped Paris students find “sugar daddies” to finance their university courses.

Police impounded the billboard that promoted a matchmaking website with the line: “Hey students – romance, passion and no student loan!”

Marlène Schiappa, minister for gender equality, said the website may face prosecution under prostitution laws.

Beside a picture of a man lying next to a scantily clad woman, a caption read: “Go with a sugar daddy or mama.”

The advertisement sparked outrage on social media and a student union has filed a police complaint alleging pimping. It comes in the wake of reports that Parisian landlords had been offering students free or subsidised accommodation in return for sexual favours.
