Thailand’s farewell to a beloved king
Thais bade farewell to King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Bangkok’s streets yesterday, part of a year of mourning and ceremonies steeped in centuries of tradition. Processions involving the royal family, thousands of troops, a golden palanquin, a chariot and royal gun carriage carried a ceremonial urn from the Dusit Maha Prasad Throne Hall to a crematorium. The king died aged 88 on Oct 13 last year, having reigned for 70 years.
