University of the Left
SIR – Allister Heath (Comment, October 26) points out that the grip of the Left on universities has changed them into places where “words no longer have any objective, intrinsic meaning; what matters is how others feel subjectively about them”.
The reason why the Left places so much emphasis on subjectivity is that if you look at things objectively – that is, by reference to fact – the Left loses all the arguments.
Subjectivity allows the Left to ignore inconvenient truths by redefining what truth is. The justification for this is, of course, their high moral purpose.
History, however, shows that you cannot build a better world by disregarding reality. Sadly, it may take a Corbyn government and its concomitant disasters to teach the young this. Alexander Pelling
