No change from banks

-

SIR – I can assure David Moreton (Letters, October 25) that he is not alone. I, too, was dumbfounded when I asked staff at my local Nationwide to change a £20 banknote into two £10 notes, only to be told that it had to be done through my account.

When I asked why, I was told that every transaction had to show a paper trail.

I walked out and changed the £20 in my local supermarket. Marion Hansford

SIR – I had the same experience as Mr Moreton at my bank, Santander, when I asked for a £10 note to be changed into £1 coins.

Sally Jackson (Letters, October 26) misses the point when she says that any mixture of denominations can be withdrawn at the Post Office. You should be able to change money for another denomination at banks. Linda Lipman
