SIR JEREMY HEYWOOD, the head of the Civil Service, is recovering from cancer, it has been revealed.

The Cabinet Office said yesterday that Sir Jeremy, who as Cabinet Secretary is the UK’S most senior civil servant, was diagnosed last June and was treated in the months following.

It added: “He underwent treatment over the summer and early autumn, which went well. Throughout this period, with the full support of his doctors, Sir Jeremy has continued with his normal duties for the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and as Civil Service head.”

His treatment is understood to have been completed.

Sir Jeremy was appointed Cabinet Secretary following Sir Gus O’donnell’s retirement in 2011. No 10 said he had Theresa May’s “full support”.
