Student parties ‘push families to brink’

-

 A council which blamed student parties for marriage breakdowns said at least one couple has been pushed to breaking point by the noise.

Nottingham city council wrote to unruly students warning massive parties were pushing families to the brink and even leaving some people with mental health problems.

Council bosses said they did not want to be “killjoys” but confirmed at least one person living near students had complained about the impact on their marriage. It comes after parties hosted by students from the city’s two universities. A spokesman said: “With regards evidence of matrimonial breakdown, we have had direct verbal testimony from a resident in the Lenton area of the impact that the constant nature of student noise and associated behaviours has had on their marriage.”

Cllr Toby Neal, portfolio holder for community and customer services, added: “We are looking at using other enforcement options that are open to us that carry potentially serious consequences, including court action.”
