Council rejects concern over Muslim foster carers
Social services at a London council have rejected criticism following an internal inquiry into the foster case of a five-year-old girl that made headlines after her mother raised concerns over the “cultural appropriateness” of her placement. The girl’s mother had said her family were Christian but the chosen foster carers were Muslim.
Tower Hamlets Council said an investigation by a senior social worker shows that the complaints were unfair.
It said the investigation showed that foster carers provided “warm and appropriate” care for the girl, although they added that the findings were disputed by her mother.
