Scholar alleges bullying after rejecting professor

An Oxford university scholar was discriminated against after he rejected the sexual advances of a male professor twice his age, a tribunal has heard.

Dr Matthew Levy, a physics researcher at Wolfson College, said he experienced unfair treatment after he rebuffed Prof Peter Norreys.

He said yesterday that Prof Norreys bullied him following the encounter. The employment tribunal in Reading was told that Dr Levy was suing the chancellor, masters and scholars of the University of Oxford and Prof Norreys for sexual discrimination.

However, the department of physics at Oxford said Dr Levy was not an employee and his fellowship was the responsibility of the Royal Society.
