In the Sixties and Seventies, the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam was a place of revolutionary ferment, where ideas of a socialist, post-colonial African continent were widespread, prompting visits from Malcolm X, Che Guevara, the Black Panthers and Nelson Mandela.
