SIR – Rather than throwing away packets of dried Tunisian dates that “may occasionally contain insects” (Letters, November 1), WG Marshall should appreciate the added protein they contain.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations has recently recommended insects as a highly nutritious source of protein with a much smaller carbon footprint than meat.
A UK company, Grub, is already selling energy bars that contain both chopped dried dates and insects. Louise Gray
