SIR – My namesake, Robert Ashworth, asks about collection methods for leaves (Letters, November 1). I continue to await a frosty morning when wet leaves become crispy so that I can lift and chop them up using my lawnmower on its highest setting.

The resultant coarse powder provides carbon and moisture to the compost. Dr Andy Ashworth
