Spacey inquiry by Met after sex assault claim
KEVIN SPACEY is being investigated by Scotland Yard over claims he sexually assaulted a British actor while he was sleeping.
The complainant, who was 23 at the time, claims the incident occurred in 2008, after Spacey had invited him back to his home for a drink.
He claims that he awoke to find Spacey performing oral sex, and when he asked him to stop, was asked not to “tell anyone about this”.
Now in his 30s, the complainant is believed to have contacted City of London Police on Tuesday after it emerged Spacey had been accused of making a sexual advance on Anthony Rapp, the actor, when he was 14.
Spacey has denied the most recent allegation. He previously said that he did not remember the incident alleged by Rapp, but nonetheless apologised for it.
A second man has come forward in the US claiming that Spacey attempted to rape him in 1984 when he was 15. In an interview with Vulture, the US magazine, the complainant said that Spacey had “yanked down my baggy jeans” and attempted to have sex with him when he visited him at his home in New York. Spacey, whose lawyer said he “absolutely denies the allegations”, was 24 at the time.
Meanwhile, actors at the Old Vic theatre, London, where Spacey was artistic director between 2003 and 2014, have also accused him of predatory behaviour.
Separately, claims have emerged of Spacey creating a “toxic” atmosphere on the set of House of Cards, the US drama which he both starred in and produced. Eight people gave accounts to CNN. Spacey did not respond to CNN’S request for comment.
MRC, the production company behind House of Cards, said it was “deeply troubled” to learn of the allegations.
Detectives from Scotland Yard interviewed the British actor at a station in central London on Thursday.
A spokesman said: “On 1 November, City of London Police referred an allegation of sexual assault to the Metropolitan Police service. It is alleged a man assaulted another man in 2008 in Lambeth. Officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command are investigating.”
