SIR – I agree with Lesley Wells (Letters, October 27) about noisy fireworks, which seem to go off for weeks either side of November 5. Loud bangs particularly disturb our pets, but farm animals, horses and wildlife suffer too.
A solution would be to ban noisy ones in favour of silent ones, which are increasingly available. The town of Collecchio in Italy has done just that for the sake of their animals.
If you must have sound too, why not choose music – it worked for Handel. Jane Foddy
