Fingernail scratch gets burglar’s DNA
♦a burglary victim led police to the man who tried to steal her laptop by scratching him so she got a sample of his DNA.
Police were able to take scrapings from under Annie-laure Promonet’s fingernails and found traces of tissue from her attacker which contained his DNA.
St Albans Crown Court heard how burglar Marvyn Mulvey, 40, had broken into her home in Watford, Herts and beat her to the floor with an empty bottle, causing painful bruising to her body and head injuries.
Graham Arran, Deputy Circuit Judge, jailed Mulvey for seven-and-a-half years.
