Private rape case to be crowdfunded
A woman is fundraising for a private rape prosecution after saying she feels “let down” by prosecutors who did not pursue her alleged attacker.
Emily Hunt, 38, alleges she was drugged and raped, and that she woke up in a hotel room naked and with no memory following an alleged assault in 2015.
She waived her right to anonymity and launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £100,000 to attempt a private prosecution against her alleged attacker.
Ms Hunt, from Hackney, London, was told by Crown Prosecution Service lawyers there was not enough evidence to bring charges against a 35-year-old man arrested at the time on suspicion of rape.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said complaints made against it by Ms Hunt had not been upheld by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
