Royal British Legion volunteers have planted thousands of crosses at Westminste­r Abbey to commemorat­e fallen British and Commonweal­th soldiers of past conflicts in a tradition going back to 1928. There are now five other fields of remembranc­e across the UK with a combined total of 120,000 dedication­s from members of the public.
