Freed Puigdemont attacks ‘unjust’ Spain

CATALONIA’S deposed leader yesterday denounced Spain as “unjust”, a day after he was released on bail in Belgium, leaving him free to campaign ahead of next month’s election.

Carles Puigdemont was freed on Sunday night along with four of his former aides after a day in custody. He said on Twitter their thoughts were with eight Catalan colleagues “unjustly imprisoned” in Spain.

Mr Puigdemont’s lawyer said his client’s move to Belgium would enable him to remain politically active up to Catalonia’s elections on Dec 21.
