What is Jeremy Corbyn accusing the Queen of having done wrong?
SIR – There is more than a whiff of a kangaroo court in the media trial of those named in the so-called Paradise Papers (report, November 6).
There is nothing wrong in investing in offshore funds, provided that they are legally established.
I saw one tabloid headline yesterday in huge type: “Queen’s £10m tax haven scandal”. What is the average tabloid reader to make of that headline?

SIR – Mr Corbyn’s Labour Party rents its London headquarters from a fund based in Jersey. John Mcdonnell, the shadow chancellor, has his pension investments managed in Guernsey. Graham W Swift
Newcastle-under-lyme, Staffordshire
SIR – Margaret Hodge and the BBC seem to think the Queen should somehow be embarrassed at investing in overseas territories. Given that she is head of state of the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, mentioned in the Paradise Papers, I see no reason for royal embarrassment.
She might, though, be disappointed that some of these investments appear to have performed rather badly.
Alderney, Channel Islands
SIR – The Queen, as I understand it, is not subject to tax and pays a voluntary contribution based on her overall income. So where is the avoidance?
Further, are Luxembourg, Ireland and possibly the United Kingdom tax havens, as they all offer below-average corporation tax rates?
It is time for MPS to grow up and stop reacting inaccurately and hypocritically to news stories.
London N20
SIR – The saintly BBC has spent goodness how much on an investigation to surprise us with headline news that the rich move their wealth overseas to avoid tax. Well, well – who’d have thought it?
East Chinnock, Somerset
SIR – Does everyone who has a pension or ISA know for sure where all of their savings are invested? Some of those outraged by the so-called revelations would be surprised to learn the ultimate domicile of their own assets.
Tunbridge Wells
SIR – If taxes were not so high, there would be no need for tax havens.
Flamstead, Hertfordshire
SIR – Does the fact that three supporting comedy actors in Mrs Brown’s Boys can place £2million offshore indicate the BBC pays too much for its programmes?
