Senate hopeful ‘tried to seduce girl aged 14’

AN ALABAMA Republican was facing calls to pull out of a Senate race last night after reports that he initiated a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32.

Roy Moore, a 70-year-old judge, is hoping to take the seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, the attorney general. He was backed by Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist, and joined in campaigning by Nigel Farage. Yesterday Leigh Corfman, an Alabama woman, alleged he had encounters with her.

Mr Moore emailed his supporters and wrote last night: “I refuse to stand down.”

He said that the accusations were attacks from “the Obama-clinton Machine’s liberal media lapdogs”.
