Germany convicts Swiss tax spy

A Swiss man, identified only as Daniel M, 54, was handed a suspended prison term of nearly two years and a fine for spying on German tax officials in a case that has pitted Swiss bank secrecy against Germany’s crackdown on tax evasion.

The man had tried to get details of German tax officials for Swiss intelligen­ce, which wanted to prosecute them for obtaining secret bank data.
