Amer­i­can ac­cused of Mu­gabe in­sult is bailed

The US woman charged with sub­ver­sion over al­legedly in­sult­ing Robert Mu­gabe, the Zim­babwe pres­i­dent, has been freed on £750 bail.

Martha O’dono­van and her lawyers did not speak to re­porters yes­ter­day as she emerged from jail in Harare, the cap­i­tal, and left in a US em­bassy ve­hi­cle. The 25-year-old, who will re­turn to court on Wed­nes­day, is ac­cused of call­ing Mr Mu­gabe, 93, a “sick man” in a tweet in­clud­ing an im­age of the pres­i­dent with a catheter.
