Cost of GCSE guides

SIR – I have been a teacher for more than 20 years and I am alarmed at the cost of revision guides for GCSE pupils.

Until last year, my students required one guide at the cost of £5 in order to prepare for their final GCSE examination. As a result of the changes to the GCSE system, a diligent candidate with supportive parents will now need to spend £20 on four separate guides in order to prepare for the final examinations.

I struggle to see how this is contributing to improved standards in education. David G Smith
