A welcome wander with the fresh green Gove

-

SIR – How refreshing to have at last in Michael Gove a Conservative minister putting forward sensible policies that can be embraced, not only by his own party supporters, but also by all of us who worry about the future of the countryside and the environment (“Gove: my plan for a green Brexit revolution”, report November 12).

The ideas he proposes have already received praise from groups such as Green Peace, Friends of the Earth and WWF.

His ban on ivory sales, provisions for CCTV in abattoirs, ban on neonicotinoid pesticides and action on plastic bottles have been positive. He must follow through with the suggested independent watchdog to ensure the post-brexit future is protected.

Could we also have some a guarantee of continuity by keeping Mr Gove in post for at least the next two or three years? The Conservatives might be surprised how many Labour and Lib Dem voters these policies will attract. Brian Storey
