Isil accused asked MP to help with asylum in UK

-

An alleged terror plotter enlisted the help of Margaret Beckett, the Labour MP, in an attempt to claim asylum.

Munir Mohammed, 36, is on trial along with chemist Rowaida Elhassan, whom he allegedly recruited to help him with a terror attack.

He had claimed asylum in Feb 2014 after coming into Britain in the back of a lorry, but his case had not been decided more than two years later.

In Aug 2016, the Eritrean turned to Mrs Beckett for help, and the Derby MP contacted the immigration department shortly before he allegedly embarked on a plan for an attack.

Mohammed and El-hassan, 33, deny preparing terrorist acts. The trial continues.
