 This fun romantic comedy adventure by Howard Hawkes follows a group of animal trappers on safari in Africa. John Wayne is the leader of the band of merry men who, while chasing rhinos and giraffes, also have eyes for their female photographer (beautiful Italian Elsa Martinelli). As is typical of Hawkes, this is a lengthy character study, but he controls the pacing and the animal-capture scenes are a marvel. Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949, b/w) TCM, 4.55PM ★★★★★

 This witty satire about a serial killer in Edwardian England is Robert Hamer’s Ealing masterpiece. It charts the ascent of a Clapham draper’s assistant, Louis Mazzini (Dennis Price), who finds himself 10th Duke of Chalfont. Louis secures his own destiny with ruthless sangfroid, murdering each of the heirs (Alec Guinness plays all eight of them) who stand between him and the dukedom. (2016) SKY CINEMA PREMIERE, 8.00PM ★

 Starring Michael Fassbender, this film is an obedient adaptation of a video game series, in which two secretive factions vie over humanity’s right to free will. At the centre of the struggle is an artefact which contains the seeds of humanity’s self-determination. But, despite an excellent cast including Marion Cottilard, it feels that you’re watching good work in service of a bad idea.
