Sumo champion injured rival ‘with beer bottle’

The Mongolian sumo grand champion apologised yesterday for injuring a fellow wrestler, who reportedly suffered a fractured skull after being hit with a beer bottle.

Harumafuji, 33, hit Takanoiwa, 27, on the head last month at a party of Mongolian sumo wrestlers. It was not clear if Harumafuji would be charged. No one was available for comment from either wrestler’s stable.
