Millennial rail card could be Budget bribe to young

- By Jack Maidment

PHILIP HAMMOND will try to win over young voters who flocked to Labour at the last general election by using his Budget to extend the offer of cheaper rail fares to everyone aged 30 or under, according to reports.

The Chancellor will announce the extension of the 16-25 railcard when he sets out his financial blueprint on Nov 22, The Sun claimed.

The railcard allows those eligible to save one third on train fares, and opening up the scheme could be popular.

The Budget is expected to include a range of measures to attract “millennials” to the Conservative Party after their support helped Jeremy Corbyn secure better than expected results on June 8.
