Police chiefs’ pay deals are to be made public
POLICE chiefs’ pay packages from 2015-16 are to be made public in a central database for the first time under a transparency drive.
Data on pay within individual forces is available but there is currently no centralised public record.
The Home Office announced the move as part of a package of measures to address “areas of inconsistency and concern” around chiefs’ employment. The Government will also set out in law plans for a standardised policy on annual leave, which will be capped at 35 days.
Previously, arrangements were unclear and inconsistent, where chief officers could take off at least 48 days a year but their rest days were poorly defined.
The Chief Police Officers Staff Association said: “Senior leaders recognise a need for greater clarity and transparency on these issues.”
