Ironed, not laundered

SIR – To smooth one of the new £5 notes which has become creased (Letter, November 14), my solution has been to warm it with a blast of air from a hair-dryer for a few seconds and then hold it between the thumb and forefinger of one hand and draw it over the forefinger of the other.

The result isn’t perfect, but it does make the note more manageable. Peter Moyes
