RADIO 2, 10.00PM

Historian Russell Davies continues his five-part exploration of the music produced during the Great War, this time focusing on 1917. There’s music from the magnificently named Vaudeville stars Van and Schenck and The Two Bobs, as well as John Mccormack, Florrie Forde, Olive Groves, Henry Hall and The Mellomen. As the United States joined in the fighting, they brought with them new musical influences, with songs such as America, Here’s My Boy and The Ragtime Volunteers Are Off to War.
