Love lift us up

SIR – Readers wonder (Letters, November 21) where the hitchhikers have gone.

For my part, I am now no longer a serving member of the Royal Marines travelling between Plymouth and Poole. This may be an opportune moment to thank the many people who kept a romance alive during that period by giving me a lift.

Next year we celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary.
