SIR – Aidan Chivers (Letters, November 16) is concerned that children in France have to follow a twice-yearly drill on what to do in case of a terrorist attack.

Two of my grandchild­ren, who live in Japan, undertake weekly practices at school. These are conducted not only in preparatio­n for an earthquake, but also, now, for a missile attack.

Better safe than sorry?
