Simple rail tickets

SIR – The introduction of an under-30s railcard (report, November 21) will only add more complexity to our Kafkaesque rail-ticketing system.

I cannot be the only person who, when travelling by rail, suffers from ticket anxiety as the guard approaches down the carriage. Am I on the right train with the right ticket? Or just the right ticket, but wrong train ?

Life was easier when there was only one type of ticket and everybody paid the same price. Stephen O’loughlin
