Palace confirms Meghan will become fully-fledged Briton
MEGHAN MARKLE will be disappointed if she doesn’t pass the test needed to become a British citizen.
Kensington Palace disclosed yesterday that Ms Markle intends to adopt UK nationality when she marries Prince Harry, and will be required to take a Home Office test, costing £50.
The test’s questions include “Who is Queen Elizabeth married to?” and comes with four multiple choice answers. If Ms Markle wrongly ticks the Prince Harry box, then the Royal family may have a problem.
In reality, Ms Markle, a supporter of President Barack Obama, has already displayed a willingness to get stuck in to everyday British political life.
Last July she posted a sympathetic image of a Remain protester carrying a placard that stated “If EU leave me now you take away the biggest part of me”. A few days later she wrote on Twitter: “Watched David Cameron’s parting speech. What a class act.”
Kensington Palace has pledged that Ms Markle will not cut corners and it may be years before she can call herself a fully-fledged Briton, according to reports.
Jason Knauf, Prince Harry’s communication’s secretary, said Ms Markle, who has relocated to London, would be “compliant with immigration requirements at all times”.
To become a citizen, Ms Markle must demonstrate a good knowledge of English and life in the UK. The test covers British values, traditions, history and everyday life.
