Tarnished Aung San Suu Kyi loses freedom of Oxford

Aung San Suu Kyi has been stripped of the honorific freedom of Oxford, where she studied and raised her children, given to her in 1997.

The city council said it took the decision due to “her inaction in the face of the oppression of the minority Rohingya population”.

It added: “Our reputation is tarnished by honouring those who turn a blind eye to violence.”
