SIR – Dame Jacqueline Wilson should reconsider her views on smartphones (report, November 27).

At the age of 60, I have discovered Kindle on my smartphone. I now travel with a library at my fingertips, from Cervantes to Georgette Heyer.

Whenever a reading opportunity arises – be it while sitting at the vet’s or the doctor’s, or waiting for anything at all – I open up Kindle. I am reading more now than ever before. Jill Newton
