Mishal Hussain is a breath of fresh air, I hope she is royally rewarded
This week has brought us a new brunette heroine: bright, beautiful, fabulously achieving and altogether girl-crushable. I speak, of course, of Mishal Husain, the BBC interviewer cherry-picked by Prince Harry and his inamorata to bring their love story to a watching world.
The Cambridgeeducated Husain, 44, is obviously a cracking journalist.
Before becoming the Today programme’s first Muslim presenter in 2013, she made her name reporting on the fallout from 9/11, the Iraq war and the London 2012 Olympics.
During her tenure at Today – where the mother of three is known for being fiercely organised – she has also fronted key referendum and election coverage.
Best of all, she did what we all long to do and silenced Boris Johnson, declaring: “No, no, please stop talking…”, an expression that deserves to become a national catchphrase.
Husain’s exquisitely measured tones compare favourably to the histrionics of her older male colleagues, not least first thing in the morning, when their froth and spittle prove testing.
Naturally – being female, and her employer being the BBC – she does all this for the equivalent of 10 pence and an apple, while her male colleagues rake in the cash.
Let’s hope that this most recent scalp comes royally rewarded.
