Army cuts could fund cyber war, hints May
Theresa May refused to rule out cuts that could see Army numbers fall below 70,000 when she visited British soldiers in Iraq yesterday.
One of her own defence ministers, Tobias Ellwood, vowed to resign if the Army fell below 70,000 from the present 78,500, which is well below the 82,000 previously promised by the Tories. Mrs May hinted that money may be diverted to fighting cyber terrorism from traditional military functions. Her visit to Iraq was the first by a prime minister since Gordon Brown in 2008.
